They also feature a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. 5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance.
